A few weeks ago I felt the urge to put together Boo Baskets for my two teen girls. When they were younger this was an October tradition. Only we didn’t boo our own kids. We boo’ed the neighbors, who then boo’ed other neighbors. Each house, once boo’ed, would hang a paper ghost on their door or in their window showing their house had already been hit. This kid-friendly activity would continue up til Halloween. It was a fun activity we all looked forward to participating in each year. But, once they hit a certain age, we naturally stopped this tradition.

Until this year!

Wanting to do something special for my own girls to ring in this new season and the upcoming holiday, I began my search for items to put in their baskets. Now, if you have teens you probably know this can be a struggle. When kids are young, it’s easy to get them items they will enjoy because their expectations are pretty low. Ha! But as they get older, it seems to get more difficult. Thankfully, they drop hints about things they like and if we really listen to them we are often able to get it right. I think this year, I actually achieved real smiles and genuine “Thank-you’s!” for their unexpected boo baskets.

While they both received similar items in their baskets, I did mix it up for each kiddo based on what I know they like, their different interests and stages of life. I started with the fail-proof idea of body wash in different fall scents from Bath and Body Works. Next was picking out a Halloween T-Shirt. This can be tricky because while my oldest will wear about anything I get her, my youngest has opinions! Ha. But, there was one direction I was pretty sure I couldn’t fail on when it came to shirts and that was anything with skeletons! So she received this skeleton one and my oldest got this Starbucks knock-off design -the basic-witch shirt. Then I found some cozy slippers at Target and of course candy! I gave them both a small bag of candy corn and a family-favorite, Reeces Peanut Buttercups. I also got both girls some Halloween earrings. My youngest got these (they are bit more her style) and the oldest, these. I also found some Halloween nail art stickers. I split these between the two girls because there were about a dozen sheets in one package. They are both into having their nails done currently, so I knew this would be a good gift for each of their baskets. Then I found some cute fall phone cases! They love switching out their cases from time to time, so I grabbed this Halloween one for my oldest and this Fall themed phone case for my youngest—who always has collage screen-savers on her phone, so I sort of thought I’d get some bonus points with this one. Low and behold, I did! My youngest got a couple of cute car freshener she picked out awhile ago from Alt’d State for her vehicle. I was going to put them in her Christmas stocking, but thought this was the perfect opportunity to pull those out. Lastly, my oldest has really gotten into making Diamond Dot art lately, so I grabbed one of these kits from Hobby Lobby for her.

All in all, I really enjoyed putting them together and was happy to know they enjoyed receiving them…from our friendly skeletons of course! Ha!

Hopefully this spurs some ideas and helps others put together boo baskets for their teens.

Til next time, happy boo’ing!
