BellaRa + Co is a handmade beaded jewelry business that was birthed as a result of my special-needs daughter’s love of crafts. For many years, she has requested to make and sell bracelets, but I have not had the bandwidth to help her. Until recently, that is. Her primary role at BellaRa + Co is beading each design. While this task may seem minimal, for her it is extremely therapeutic. Having lost the majority of her vision as a result of her story, the task of beading allows her to strengthen her fine motor skills as well as increase her hand-eye coordination. Because the work is tedious in nature, she only spends about 1 to 2 hours a day beading bracelets. She is paid hourly for the work she does which helps her pay for some of her own clothing and food. Her bucket list wish, is to swim with Dolphins. So, she is also working to see this dream come true. She works daily upon coming home from Transition 2 - a continuing education program through our local high school that helps special-needs adults transition from life as a high school student to living more independently. Bella hopes to one day attend Lipscomb University’s IDEAL program - a college experience for adults with special-needs. But for now, she enjoys her 4-hour a week job working in our church’s infant and toddler room, crafting, swimming, being with her friends, and shopping at carters for her baby dolls.
